May Day 2012-- Spring has sprung. Lots of Apple Blossoms in the meadow.

Hint-of-Autumn Trail Ride 9-24-11 Queen of Hearts- 4 yr NASDHA filly.
I've always said there's no such thing as a bombproof horse, but The Baby Girl may change my mind. She was more interested in the apples than the 5 deer that ran off from under that tree. On the way home we encountered 14 turkey coming up the trail about 50 ft away. Ho-Hum.
October 2011-- Moose Tracks! Highly visible in the early season snow. Guess this explains the fence issues in the North Pasture. Fortunately, no loose horses- they are up in the paddock behind the barn for the duration of hunting season.
September 21-- Clean up from Hurricane Irene is complete! New fence posts in south pasture and a temporary fence in north pasture. Final debris removal and permanent fence this weekend.
August 28 2011-- Hurricane Irene hits Vermont. Massive destruction state-wide. Here at SSH we count our blessings- high water and minimal debris swept into pastures. Horses are fine! Vermonters will need continued support.
July 2011 We added 2 log jumps to the north pasture- room to gallop!
June 2011 Busy training and showing horses. Pastures to mow and trails to brush hog.
May Day May Day!! Green-up in progress! Gorgeous blue sky and scrumptious green grass!
Spring is here- Bleubirds, peepers, and yes, mosquitoes!
December 17 2010-- Beautiful sunrise. Only 6 degrees, but still- no wind.
December 1, 2010-- WOW! 65 mph winds brought down a huge Maple limb. The horses are browsing like deer. They love it!
Above- BLM Mustang from Calico Mountains. Dun filly.
November 22, 2010-- SSH receives Title from the BLM for Dan and Gracie. It's official!

April 23-- First Turnout. What a difference a few weeks makes!
April Showers!! Not rain, but Snow and lots of it. We were all hoping for green grass!
March 20th-- Spring is here! The snow drops are up and the Mosquitoes are out.
February 13 2010-- SPRING IS ALMOST HERE!- the deer are coming down off the hill to browse the greenery exposed by the melting snow. There were 7 in this herd. They sure had the horses' interest!
November 5, 2009-- Congratulations SSH on the purchase of Hush Dotty and Chicklet- Mare and weanling JC TB's with lots of chrome. Thanks Jo! They're perfect!! Pictures coming soon.
November 2nd-- What a perfect full moon ride! Balmy, clear, bright... Stitch, O-Aces and JohnMorgan picked apples in the moonlight and scared up some bedded down deer. Beautiful, dramatic sky.
October 22nd-- Debbie and Claire had a fantastic ride up to the top of the hill for a picnic lunch. Stitch and O-Aces had a lovely canter around the cornfield, then set off up the "snowy river hill", thru "the swimming hole", and down to the bench. Perfect day, perfect fun.
October 13th-- Welcome Claire and O-Aces!! We look forward to a fun-filled winter!!
September 26th-- WOW! What a perfect day for a Fall Foliage ride. GMHA's ride was spectacular. Mister and Beamer are now best friends. See Photo Gallery, Margaritaville
September 14th-- SSH welcomes Mister and Raggs- Keanan's PMU gelding and her trusted ol' Arabian gelding. Mister is in fitness training for the GMHA Fall Foliage I trail ride on the 26th. Tucker is coming along nicely with voice commands and transitions in the round pen. Megan tried an english saddle on Sierra and was posting in 5 minutes. :-)
September 7th-- Welcome to Tucker- Becca's Draft Cross gelding. Tucker is here to learn the wisdom of the round pen. Like Sierra- who has learned to relax and drop her head. Her stride has lengthened and her rhythm has slowed.
August 25th--SSH welcomes Sierra and Tucker-Megan's PMU mare and her donkey. All 3 will enjoy a few weeks of fitness and training. Many thanks to Megan- she has made headway with Dan! She was able to re-size his halter and can get him to follow her. Debbie had an ah-ha moment with Gracie- this filly loves her belly scratched and if you stop, she will nudge your arm to get you to continue. Trust happens!
July 17th-- SSH's new Clyde mare Reflection. She knows her job and how to do it. We'd like to send a big Thank You to Bruce at Greenbank Hollow Farm in Danville VT for giving her such a great start. Last weekend, John drove her up onto the new trail he cut into the jump field. The trail is ROUGH, but she knew how to handle it-- stones, stumps, low limbs, a partially fallen-in stone wall, and a run-off ditch. She picked her way carefully and delicately. She sure can lean into her collar alright!!
July 10th--The jump field is brush hogged and cleared. Stumps and stones are gone. X-C fence building will begin as soon as first cut is done. (what a year for haying!!)
June 13th- SSH has adopted 2 BLM Mustangs. Yearlings Gracie and Dan were captured on Jan 5 2009 from the Battle Mountain area in Nevada. They will need to settle in before gentling.
May 25th -- CONGRATULATIONS TO RUTH OF ESSEX ON HER PURCHASE OF OUR PERCHERON CROSS, JOHNNY COME LATELY. "Sparky" has a fabulous opportunity to further his education and we know he will continue to receive all those hugs and kisses :-)
May 10th -- WELCOME TO SSH's NEW REGISTERED CLYDESDALE MARE: SCA TOP GUNS REFLECTION. She is 17.3 h and drives. A big thank you to Amy at Stannard Mountain Clydesdales for making this possible.
March 15th -- Sympathies to John, who broke his pelvis in March when trail poachers on dirt bikes spooked his horse. They did not even stop. They are on private property where they have been asked not to ride. PLEASE- all trail users- be lawful and be respectful of other trail users!!
February -- Plans are underway for a cross country jump course. We will begin this spring by constructing a few standard obstacles, but time-permitting, we hope to have a small course by the end of the summer. Our focus will be on "different" not "big". There is the potential for several water crossing questions and all sorts of ditches, drops, banks, and steps. It is our goal to make available for schooling a few of the more unusual obstacles that horses or riders encounter in competition.
January 2009 -- A huge thank you to John and Joe for the December completion of our awesome 12'x 24' run-in shed. With a few gates and a removable center partition, it will double as the foaling shed.
